If you are like most people, you probably use your garbage disposal quite a bit.
Garbage disposals are one of the most frequently used appliances in the kitchen, and they are an important tool for keeping food scraps out of landfills. However, in order to keep benefiting from your garbage disposal, you have to know how to properly take care of it. Unfortunately, there are many myths out there about garbage disposals that, if you follow them, could cause you to end up with a broken disposal. Luckily, our Belleville plumber is here to help! The following is a list of the most common myths about garbage disposals.
Myth #1. You can sharpen your garbage disposal’s blades with ice cubes.
This myth is busted for two main reasons. The first being that the blades in your garbage disposal were never sharp to begin with, they are blunt. So, if your disposal isn’t working correctly, it isn’t because the blades are dull, there could be a plethora of other reasons. The second reason this myth is busted is that ice won’t help at all, and in fact, it could actually damage your disposal.
Myth #2. You can clean your garbage disposal with a lemon rind.
While it’s true that putting a lemon rind into your garbage disposal may help to make it smell better temporarily, it won’t actually clean your disposal. In fact, the citric acid could actually damage your disposal. To clean your disposal, all you need is warm water, mild soap and a long-handled brush. Just don’t forget to disconnect the disposal’s power source before you clean it!
