There are many myths out there about plumbing, but unfortunately, many of them may cost you.

We are living in the age of information. Whether you want to learn how to fix your toilet or clean your garbage disposal, you can do so with a simple internet search. However, you can’t believe everything you read or hear, and there are some common plumbing myths out there that can actually lead to costly issues down the road. There are many costly plumbing myths that you should stop believing, and our Belleville plumber has come up with this list of just a couple of them:

Myth #1. Freshen up your garbage disposal with a lemon.

Many people put lemon rinds down their garbage disposals to clean them. While this may deodorize your garbage disposal for a while, it really won’t clean it at all. Not only is this inefficient, the acid in the lemon can actually corrode the metal in your garbage disposal.

Myth #2. You don’t have a clog in your drain as long as the water runs down it.

Unless something particularly big gets shoved down your drain, clogs don’t often happen all at once. Clogs are usually caused by a buildup over a long period of time, so you could easily have a clog without even realizing it. That is one of the reasons why it’s so important to have your drains cleaned on a regular basis.

These are just a couple of the many expensive plumbing myths that you should stop believing. Please stay tuned for our next blog to learn about more of them!
