Prevent clogs by knowing what not to flush!
Plumbing is a modern marvel, but it’s a lot more sensitive than most people think. People throw all kinds of things down their toilets, and some of the most surprising things can lead to big clogs. In our Belleville plumber’s latest blog, we went over a couple of those surprising things that can lead to clogs. Keep reading to learn about more surprising things you should never flush:
#3. Paper Towels
Paper towels are just that, paper, and just like toilet paper, they should break down in the water, right? Wrong, paper towels are not designed for breaking down in water. If you flush a paper towel, you may be surprised at how fast it can clog your toilet.
Tampon manufacturers have absolutely no incentive to tell customers not to flush their products, especially because it makes them seem less convenient. This is one of the main reasons why so many people flush tampons without giving it a second thought. Unfortunately, tampons are designed to expand when wet, and they don’t break down easily in water. While tampons may not cause your toilet, they can create expensive and damaging backups in the sewer system.
#5. Cat Litter
The toilet seems like a great place for cat litter because you can just flush it and forget about it, but you should never flush cat litter. Many cat litters are designed to clump up when it comes in contact with moisture. This makes it exceptionally easy to clean out the litter box, but it also makes it all too easy for the litter to clump up and clog your pipes.
