It’s obvious that some things should never be flushed down your toilet, but some things are a bit more surprising.
Most people know not to flush things that will obviously clog the toilet, such as clothing or plastic, but there are many things that seem like they are safe to flush but really aren’t. At Culler Plumber Services, our Belleville plumber gets many calls about clogged toilets, and one of the biggest reasons for these clogs is flushing things that should not be flushed. That’s why we’ve come up with this list of surprising things that you should never flush:
#1. Wet Wipes
Wet wipes are specifically designed to be used in the bathroom, so it seems like they are safe to flush down the toilet, but in reality, you should never flush them. Even the wipes that claim to be “flushable” have been known to clog toilets and back up sewer systems. In fact, one city in Minnesota is even suing the manufacturers of these so-called flushable wipes because of how much damage they have caused the city’s sewer systems.
#2. Cotton Balls
Since these little balls are made out of cotton, it seems like they should break down fairly easily when you flush them, but they have actually been known to cause some very severe blockages. Cotton balls tend to gather together in the bends of the pipes, which is how they form such big clogs.
