Have you ever gone to take a large drink of water, only to find that there are black specks or debris floating around in it?

To say that this is unpleasant is a huge understatement. In fact, it is downright gross and it can even cause health problems! That’s why, if your water is dirty, you should always try to identify what is causing the problem and correct it. Not sure where to begin? Our Belleville plumber can help! The following is a list of common things that can cause nasty silt to contaminate your water:

#1. Carbon from your water filter.

Although water filters are designed to provide you with clean water, sometimes, they can actually be the cause of those gross little specks in your water. Many water filters are designed to filter out carbon, but if the filter gets old or broken down, the carbon can get into your water. Replace your filter per the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid this problem.

#2. Dirt from a broken water main.

If you find actual dirt in your water, it usually means that your municipal water supply has a broken water main. To correct this problem, contact your local water department to alert them. If your home uses well water, the dirt could be coming right from the source. In this case, try running your water to flush out the system, or replacing or repairing the filtration system and screening.

These are just a couple of the many things that could lead to dirty water in your home. Would you like to learn more? If so, please stay tuned for our next blog!
