The summer is over and the fall is here at last, and with it will come much cooler temperatures. Is your home ready for the cooler weather? This winter is expected to be long and cold, and, if you aren’t careful, your pipes could end up paying the price. Luckily, you have Culler Plumbing Services on your side, and our experienced Belleville plumber is always happy to help. The following is a list of things that you can do to prevent your pipes from freezing before the cold hits:
- Seal any air leaks- Did you know that even a small amount of cold air from the tiniest leak could cause a pipe to freeze? That is why it is important to seal any air leaks that you find around the pipes in your home. These air leaks are generally located around dryer vents, pipes, and electrical wiring. You can seal these leaks with insulation or caulk.
- Take care of outside hoses and hose bibs- Before it starts to get cold out, disconnect all of your hoses and store them. You should also turn off your outside hose bibs (the spigot where you attach your hose). Water can freeze in the hose bib and cause freezing, flooding, or other damage, which is why it is so important to shut off any valves from pipes that lead to outside faucets.
These are just a couple of tips on how to prevent your pipes from freezing before the winter comes. To find out more, please stay tuned for next week’s blog, where we will be going over more helpful tips.
