Of all of the good things that come with summertime, there is one that many of us look forward to the most –summer vacation. Vacations are the very best thing that you can do to unwind from your busy life, but no one wants to come home from a relaxing vacation, and be immediately submerged into stress mode because there has been a plumbing issue, or even worse, an electrical issue. That is why our talented Troy plumber has come up with this list of steps to prepare your home for your vacation:
- Thermostat- The most common mistake that homeowners make is shutting off their thermostat completely when they go on vacation –excess heat can cause a great deal of damage to your home. A better alternative would be to raise it to a higher temperature. That way, your house will be protected from damage, but you won’t have to pay as much to keep an empty house cool.
- Water Valve- Do you plan on being gone for more than a few days? Then you need to shut off your home’s main water valve. That way if you were to have a pipe burst while you were gone, you won’t be coming home to a flood that would impress Noah. If you do decide to shut off your water valve, it is important that you also shut off your electric hot water heater in order to prevent a fire.
