What not to flush from our Collinsville plumber.
Toilet clogs are far and away the biggest plumbing problem that the average household will run into. Toilets are pretty wonderful things when you think about it, but unfortunately, if you flush the wrong things down your toilet, you could end up with a big problem on your hands. That is why your go-to Collinsville plumber has come up with this list of things that you should never EVER flush down your toilet:

  • Women’s sanitary products – This is an incredibly common one, and it can wreak havoc on your plumbing. When you flush a tampon or a pad, it doesn’t simply disintegrate in the water. These products are designed to expand when wet, so that they can absorb more moisture, and that is exactly what they will do. If you have had enough tampons or pads flushed, they will expand and lead to a nasty clog.
  • Condoms – Condoms may seem small and inconsequential, but they can spell trouble for your septic system. Do yourself and your plumbing a favor by throwing condoms in the trash instead of flushing them down the toilet.
  • Cotton balls- Many people think that cotton balls will break up and disintegrate in the water, but in fact, the opposite is true.  Cotton balls will gather in the bends of your pipes and form a nightmare of a clog.
  • Cigarette butts- Not only are cigarette butts bad for your plumbing, but they contain a plethora of toxins that get introduced into the water supply when you flush them.
