Have you had a chance to read our latest blog yet? If you have, then you already know about a few common things that you should never flush down your toilet. To recap, we talked about women’s sanitary products, condoms, cotton balls and cigarette butts, but theses aren’t the only products that can clog up your toilet. The following is the rest of a list from our Edwardsville plumber of the last few things that you should avoid flushing down your toilet:
- Diapers- Many people think that because there is poop in diapers, it is okay to flush them down the toilet. Diapers are made to expand when they com in contact with water, and they are also very large to begin with. If you somehow managed to flush the diaper down the toilet, it is likely to get stuck in the u-bend almost immediately.
- Band-aids- Not many people realize, but band-aids aren’t actually biodegradable. Not only can this lead to nasty clogs in your sewage system, but they are also terrible for the environment.
- Dental floss- Just like diapers and band-aids, dental floss isn’t biodegradable, and just because it’s small doesn’t mean that it won’t clog your pipes. Dental floss tends to wrap itself around other objects, which can quickly turn a small clog into a big one.
- Bathroom wipes- These wipes may leave you feeling fresh and clean, but they can spell bad news for your plumbing. Yes, we know that many of them have packaging that say its okay to flush them, but the reality is that many of them have been known to cause sewer backups.
