Did you know that you can help to protect your plumbing system by keeping your bathroom clean?

If your family is like most, there are probably regular arguments in your home about whose turn it is to clean the bathroom. Although cleaning the bathroom isn’t a pleasant task, it’s an important one. Keeping your bathroom clean can actually help you protect your plumbing and avoid having to call in an emergency plumber in Belleville. Check out our last blog for a couple of tips to help you clean your bathroom like a plumber, and keep reading to learn more:

#3. Vacuum first, then mop.

Chances are, you regularly have to deal with hair on your bathroom floor. Hair can be incredibly frustrating to clean up, but it is much easier to remove when it’s dry. Before you start mopping or adding water to the equation, run the vacuum over the floor. While you are cleaning the floor, be sure to watch out for mold or mildew, which could indicate a leaking sink, tub or toilet.

#4. Replace rusty plumbing fixtures.

While there are many tips and tricks for cleaning rust off of your plumbing fixtures, you’re better off simply replacing them. Little bits of rust can get into the water stream and make you sick.

#5. Check for leaks when cleaning your toilet.

Before you scrub your toilet clean, do the dye test. Purchase dye tablets from your local water provider or hardware store, and place one of these tabs in the tank of your toilet. Don’t flush or use the toilet for 10 minutes. If the dye has made its way into your toilet bowl, you have a leak that needs to be addressed by a plumber.
