You need working water lines for almost everything!

Whether you are doing laundry, getting a drink of water or taking a shower, you need clean, fresh water in order to do so. Your water lines are responsible for bringing the fresh, clean water into your home, and that is why it is so important that you know when it is time to replace your water lines. In our last blog, our Fairview Heights plumber went over a couple of signs that your water lines need to be replaced. The following is a list of a few more signs that your water lines need to be replaced:

#3. You have lead or galvanized steel pipes.

Was your home built before 1986? If so, you may have pipes that are made from either lead or galvanized steel, both of which can be potentially dangerous. To find out what your pipes are made of, check your home inspection report or have a plumber inspect your pipes. If you do have galvanized steel or lead pipes, have them replaced immediately.

#4. You experience clogs or leaks frequently.

While an occasional leak or clog is common and usually easy to fix, frequent clogs or leaks can be indicative of pipe deterioration or corrosion. If you experience frequent clogs or leaks, you need to have an experienced plumber inspect your pipes.

#5. Your pipes are old.

Many of our nation’s pipes were actually installed after World War II, and many of them are in serious need of either repair or replacement. Plumbing pipes can last for decades, but it is important to note that the typical age for broken water mains is forty-seven. If your pipes are on the older side, have them inspected by a professional.
