Christmas is less than a week away! This is the time of the year that relaxation and giving should be at the forefront of your mind, but that can be difficult to do when you have a high water bill to pay. When your water bill is unusually high, it is most likely a sign that there is a problem! The following is a list from our Fairview Heights plumber of the most common reasons why you may be looking at a higher water bill than normal:
- Leaks- A leak is hands down the most common reason why you may be seeing a higher water bill. Though leaks can be hard to spot, especially if you have an untrained eye, a great place to start looking for them is around your toilet and your faucets. It is also a good idea to check out your pipes to watch for any dripping or mold growing on the walls nearby.
- A toilet flapper that won’t close- When your toilet flapper won’t close properly, it will cause a “double flush”, which can really cause your water bill to spike. Make sure that your toilet flapper is seated correctly, and if you can’t get it to stay in the right place, replace it!
- A faulty water meter- Though water meters are generally reliable, they aren’t perfect and they can be misread. If you have a suspicion that your water meter isn’t working correctly, then give your water company a call. They can send someone out to make sure that your water meter is working correctly.
